Making development easier for Universities

The Localism Act 2011 has put in place a new 'neighbourhood approach' to planning – Universities may be able to make use of this to shape their estates development:
  • Certain types of development may no longer need planning permission
  • Potentially greater certainty in the planning process – important for investors and development partners
  • Universities can drive planning policy specific to their estates – rather than being just a consultee
