Pinsent Masons strengthens financial services offering with employment specialist

19 Nov 2014 | 03:04 pm | 1 min. read

International law firm Pinsent Masons has boosted its financial services team with the hire of employment expert Steven Cochrane who joins from Allen & Overy. Steven has also spent a period of time seconded to the HR Legal team of a Global Financial Services organisation.

Steven, who joins as a partner in London, will focus on advising financial services clients on the full spectrum of employment related matters, particularly executive level employment law issues and matters with cross-border regulatory focus. Regulation in the financial markets and increased scrutiny of compensation culture and compliance behaviours means that HR and employment issues have become, more than ever, business critical within the financial services sector.

Commenting on the appointment John Salmon, Head of the Financial Services sector at Pinsent Masons said:

“Steven has extensive experience in providing strategic employment law advice to UK and international financial institutions.  The financial crisis, together with global investigations into scandals such as LIBOR and FX manipulation and the resulting shift in compensation culture have had widespread ramifications from an HR perspective.  Steven’s experience in providing strategic advice on the employment law issues flowing from these complex regulatory matters will help us cement our position at the forefront of this area.”

Diane Nicol, Head of Employment at Pinsent Masons, added:

“The bank and insurance sectors are facing a period of immense change as a result of commercial and regulatory pressures.  Steven has in-depth knowledge of the factors driving that change in addition to being a first-rate employment lawyer.  His appointment will add further strength in depth to our employment team in particular, in the City, which has a strategic focus on providing innovative solutions to clients in the Financial Services sector which is a core area of strategic focus for the team.”

Steven’s arrival follows the appointment of financial services outsourcing and technology expert Tim Roughton earlier this year.
