E.ON UK, one of the UK’s leading energy companies, and international law firm Pinsent Masons have won the keynote ‘Future of Legal Services Innovation’ award at the inaugural Legal Innovation awards.

The awards, which are organised by leading UK industry publication Legal Week, have been established to celebrate creative excellence in the legal profession.

The organisers say that the ‘Future of Legal Services’ award is aimed at recognising “groundbreaking innovation in the delivery of legal services”.

E.ON and Pinsent Masons won the award as a result of their ground breaking partnership, established in 2013, that saw the two organisations develop a new way of working which fundamentally recalibrated the traditional client/ private practice relationship by offering a long term service arrangement for based on a set of fixed fee arrangements.

The judges said that the deal "demonstrated a deep understanding of the challenges the industry faces, with a departure from the billable hour coupled with new thinking with regards to technology, knowledge management and flexible resourcing."

Kirin Kalsi, Head of Legal, E.ON UK, says:

“Our partnership with Pinsent Masons has been an exciting and innovative arrangement. It has only been possible however because of the continued excellent and dedicated work of the whole E.ON team and our colleagues at Pinsent Masons. In our view this is the way legal services provision should go in all sectors and we’re very excited to be a part of that fundamental change for the better."

Jonathan Fortnam, Client Relationship Partner for E.ON UK Plc at Pinsent Masons, says:

“We are delighted to have worked together with E.ON UK Plc to create a way of working which is recognised by the industry as truly cutting edge. Partnership has been the watchword throughout and this award demonstrates what can be achieved through genuine collaboration.”
