Pinsent Masons strengthens financial services regulatory team

10 Aug 2015 | 02:14 pm | 1 min. read

International law firm Pinsent Masons has appointed Elizabeth Budd to its fast growing Financial Regulation Group.

Elizabeth joins the firm's London office as a partner from Charles Russell Speechlys, where she headed up the financial services practice.

Elizabeth has extensive financial regulatory expertise but specialises in particular in advising asset and fund managers on the constantly shifting regulatory landscape in the UK and EU. On the funds side she has established UCITS and AIFs structured as unit trusts, open ended investment companies and limited partnerships  on-shore and offshore. She has also advised extensively on the distribution of fund products including their use for tax wrappers.  She has advised asset managers in relation to increased FCA supervision and enforcement action as well as on major EU level changes such as the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II (MiFID II) and the Alternative Investment Managers Directive (AIFMD).

Elizabeth's appointment follows significant investment in the firm's financial services offering: In May 2015 the firm recruited David Heffron from Addleshaw Goddard to lead the Financial Regulation Group and former FCA enforcement lawyer, Michael Ruck joined the firm the previous year.

John Salmon, Head of Financial Services at Pinsent Masons, says:

"We continue to see a high level of demand for regulatory advice from our clients in the banking, insurance and asset management sectors and are investing in our City-based team accordingly. The appointment of David and Elizabeth in quick succession is a real signal of intent – our clients value our innovative approach allied to significant sector knowledge. Pinsent Masons’ vision is to become an international market-leader in the sectors in which we operate, and this appointment moves us forward a significant step in the financial services arena.”
