Pinsent Masons top ratings in Planning Survey

Pinsent Masons has topped the Planning Law Survey rankings of the most respected planning law firms for the second year running. The annual survey, first published in 1998, helps planners and legal practitioners to identify the solicitors, law firms and barristers best equipped to deal with planning matters.

The survey said that this year's front-runner, Pinsent Masons, is also rated in the top three firms nationally in each of the key sectors - housing, commercial and infrastructure - on which Planning Magazine sought nominations.

Around half Pinsent Masons planning workload is built development - residential, commercial, public sector or compulsory purchase order (CPO) work. The other half concerns infrastructure, such as advising Transport for London (TfL) on the Northern Line extension and the Highways Agency on upgrading the A14 in the East of England.

Iain Gilbey, Planning & Infrastructure partner at Pinsent Masons, said:

“We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised again this year. We have a tremendous team of lawyers, expert in all areas of planning and environmental law, who have worked tirelessly through the last twelve months delivering top quality, commercially focussed advice on some fantastic projects.

"As the UK builds its way out of recession – and we move into a new period of Government this year – we will be working with our clients to stay one step ahead of legislative and regulatory change wherever possible.

"Outside of the UK, our work on infrastructure and energy consenting will increase this year – working from our international network of offices in Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. It will be another exciting year for our team.”
The survey received responses from almost 100 solicitors and around 120 barristers. Each participant was invited to make up to five nominations for planning silks, junior barristers, barristers under 35, planning law firms and individual solicitors whose work exemplifies best practice in planning law.
