Local Government

We are at the forefront of cutting edge work for local government often being the Governments first "port of call" to develop new concepts within local government.

We have developed a concept for local government called "Structured Solutions for Government".  This model recognises the changing environment which local authorities now face and will continue to face and is aimed at finding positive legal solutions for the delivery of services and assets where traditional funding is limited. Successes for this concept have included joint ventures, Local Asset Backed Vehicles, Local Housing Companies, shared services and other new service delivery models.

We have a core team of 10 – 12 partners within our firm who are dedicated exclusively to the local government sector.  They are supported by 50 partners and lawyers throughout the firm as a whole who support local government clients with their strategic projects.

Our  regional coverage within the UK allows us to deliver innovative legal solutions developed locally across the team. We frequently act for between 80 – 110 local authorities each year and our practice has grown at a rate of around 20% each year over the past 3 years.  We have been appointed to more local authority panels than any other firm - in 2009-10 we were appointed to 9 local government panels established by a large number of local authorities spanning from London to Glasgow.

We are renowned for our work in
