Harassment at Work: Is Your Organisation Doing Enough? - 22 November 2018

• What stops victims from raising complaints and how can these concerns be overcome?
• What Tribunals are looking for from employers in terms of taking all reasonable steps to prevent harassment
• How HR and managers can identify the difference between bullying and appropriate management action e.g. in relation to levels of performance or absence management.
More detail and bookings.

The future of the automotive sector: Navigating the skills gap
Our latest research looking at the skills gap in the automotive industry raises points which will resonate with the wider manufacturing sector.  Our White Paper is based on research carried out with not only automotive businesses but also school leavers and graduates.  This identifies gaps around what automotive businesses are doing to attract talent and what school leavers and graduates actually value.  There are some interesting findings around the high importance placed by the young respondents on a credible diversity and inclusion strategy.  Brexit and business immigration concerns also feature highly.

Morrisons loses at Court of Appeal over data leak
The Court of Appeal this week agreed with the High Court's decision that Morrisons is vicariously liable for a data leak of 100,000 employees' data caused by an employee who was subsequently jailed for the leak. The decision was issued in the early afternoon on Tuesday, and was immediately followed by a dip in Morrisons' share price; such is the power of data protection issues in the current age. Morrisons is seeking leave to appeal to the Supreme Court. That will be a highly significant case which data controllers will watch closely.

See our previous coverage of this case from December 2017 and HRNTV earlier this month. Arguing about whether or not the employer is vicariously liable is like trying to shut the stable door after the horse has already won the Derby, taken part in a victory parade and been put out to stud. Employers are of course best advised to take steps to ensure that the risk of breaches is minimized.

Discussion Breakfasts: Ethnicity Pay Gap Reporting – Consultation
As we reported a couple of weeks ago, a consultation on Ethnicity Pay Gap Reporting has been launched.  The ethnicity pay gap is a distinct issue from current Gender Pay Gap Reporting requirements, which will be handled quite differently. We are responding to the consultation, and will be hosting events in London and Glasgow to enable clients and contacts to share their views. Please let us know if you would like to attend one of our breakfast discussions on this topic, and we will send on details.
