Local Government

We are at the forefront of cutting edge work for local government, leading in creating innovative ways of achieving cost and revenue savings.

Our market leading local government team provides advice to local authorities across all legal areas.  In particular we specialise in developing new legal tools for your toolbox in driving economic growth, housing provision, and regeneration in light of ever deeper Government cuts.  These often involve creation of new models for cost savings and utilisation of assets, and boosting revenue income, whether solely public-sector-driven or in partnership with the private sector.  We recognise the changing environment which local authorities now face and will continue to face: we therefore aim to find positive legal solutions for the delivery of services and assets where traditional funding is limited.

As part of our continuing commitment to the local government sector, we have established a local government network within the firm, comprising some 100 lawyers across the three UK jurisdictions, who have all actively opted-in to improving the service we provide to local authorities. This network is investing time and resources to refresh our understanding of local authorities, with the aim of ensuring that we continue to deliver excellent transactional advice and significant additional benefits in terms of strategic business planning and efficiency savings to our clients.

We are renowned for our work in:

  • Housing led regeneration
  • Joint ventures with the private sector
  • Creation of local authority owned companies
  • Procurement and state aid
  • Shared services
  • Information and data protection law.

We undertake a significant amount of work in:

  • Employment and pensions
