Between them the members of our Tax Investigations group have successfully made disclosures to HMRC on behalf of several hundred clients.  Many of these have been through formal disclosure facilities such as the Offshore Disclosure Facility, the New Disclosure Opportunity and the Liechtenstein Disclosure Facility.  However we have also helped many clients to make voluntary disclosures through less formal channels. Whatever method you use to disclose, the issues can be complex, so it is important to take specialist advice.

HMRC have access to an ever increasing volume of information to enable them to identify and pursue taxpayers who they believe have irregularities in their tax affairs whether as a result of mistake, participation in an avoidance scheme, or deliberate behaviour.  The volume of information available will increase further with the advent of UK FATCA and CRS reporting.  The range of sanctions at their disposal to penalise those they identify with a problem is also wider than ever before.  It is therefore important to check now to ensure your tax affairs are in order; and if you do find issues that need correction, disclose them before HMRC find them.
