As the goalposts move, we ensure our clients stay ahead of the game

Rebuilding a 21st century national stadium provides a legally challenging obstacle course every step of the way. It needs lawyers not only who can keep up but stay in front. Pinsent Masons have been legal advisors for Wembley National Stadium since the project commenced in 1999.

Having guided purchase of the stadium around the complexities of Lottery Funding and key stakeholder relationships, we headed the project through a packed midfield of funders, planning authorities, environmental regulators and adjacent major developments.  All that before the construction ball was even in play.

There were all the associated collateral warranty agreements for demolition to be sorted, followed by procurement and subsequent construction contract arrangements.

For the construction build-up, we controlled the complex interchange between designers, funders, health and safety, police, security, contractors and specialist suppliers, working as a team to deliver the right result.

In the forward line, we were there to advance and defend disputes with claim values in excess of £200 million, as well as dealing with security issues.

We advised on the Safety Certificate as well as negotiations for ongoing operational and facilities management contracts.

We continue to work closely with the client on legacy issues.
