James is a specialist planning lawyer who advises developers on major energy infrastructure projects as well as commercial and residential proposals. His experience extends to advising developers on securing development consent across all UK consenting regimes.

James is a specialist planning lawyer who advises developers on major energy infrastructure projects. James is based in Edinburgh and has worked across all UK jurisdictions, having previously spent five years in London advising on a number of nationally significant infrastructure projects. He has experience advising on a range of energy technologies including conventional power, carbon capture and storage, nuclear, wind energy (offshore and onshore) biomass, and energy from waste. James also has substantial experience in securing planning consent for new residential and commercial proposals.
James' experience extends to advising developers on all aspects of consenting new development including advising on procedural requirements under the Planning Act 2008, Electricity Act 1989 and town and country planning legislation. James also has particular expertise drafting planning agreements and advising on environmental impact assessment and the exercise of compulsory purchase powers.
