Michael has broad experience in complex banking and finance transactions across Australia, Asia and Europe.

Michael's work has an emphasis on:

  • securitisation and receivables financing (including residential home loans, credit cards, vehicle leases, equipment leases, consumer loans, personal loans and commercial/business loans);
  • derivatives and structured products (including interest rate and FX swaps, credit derivatives, commodity derivatives, energy/environment derivatives and equity derivatives);
  • corporate banking facilities (including non-bank lending and syndicated lending arrangements);
  • public private partnerships/project finance for large Australian infrastructure projects; and
  • Reg S (both listed and unlisted, and in the EU and Hong Kong) and U.S. private placement bond issuances.

Michael’s deep experience in providing legal advice and transaction management across different time zones and jurisdictions means a safe pair of hands guiding even the most complex and time-critical transactions to a successful close with minimal execution risk.

Michael’s understanding of sophisticated structured financing techniques, and having acted for a diverse range of stakeholders, results in the ability to identify potential issues early in the transaction and provide pragmatic solutions to mitigate risk. With a number of years practising in major international financial centres, Michael can provide real insight into financial transactions across diverse Asian jurisdictions, including the People’s Republic of China, Singapore, Korea and Indonesia.

Michael co-authored the Hong Kong chapter of the 2013, 2014 and 2015 editions of the International Comparative Legal Guide for Securitisation and was a member of the Hong Kong securitisation team that was awarded the “2014 Regional Securitisation Firm of the Year” award at the 2014 IFLR Asia Pacific Awards. Michael is admitted to practice in Australia and England & Wales.
