Valerian advises both German and international companies in all matters related to energy law. This essentially includes advice on market regulation, in particular on grid connection and access, grid fee regulation, promotions and exemptions under the German Renewable Energies Act, concession fees and trade regulation.
In addition, he also advises at the interface between data protection and IT law and in matters related to EU state aid law.
His work over the last few years has enabled him to develop a strong understanding of the energy markets and the technological background. During a 9-month secondment in the legal department of one of Europe's leading international energy trading companies, he was able to gain practical experience.
A main focus of Valerian's work is to provide advice to the (energy cost-intensive) sector of industry. In the last few years, he advised a large number of industrial companies on a wide variety of issues, also in administrative court proceedings and in proceedings before the European Union Court of Justice.
In addition, Valerian advises (municipal) energy suppliers and producers. Finally, Valerian regularly negotiates energy trading framework agreements (EFET agreements, etc.) for various market participants, in particular trading houses, and advises on "innovative" solutions, for example on the basis of blockchain-technology.
Valerian regularly speaks at conferences in respect of energy law.
