The race for talent: the rise of workation and the immigration considerations

Learn about the potential immigration implications for employers adopting 'workation' and other flexible working concepts.

As we emerge from the global pandemic into the new working world, employers are facing acute challenges to recruit and retain their staff. These include the remarkable speed up in flexible and hybrid working, inflationary pressure and wage demands. Companies are racing to adapt to meet these needs, but soaring energy costs, as well as food and fuel prices have been key contributors to an ongoing global cost of living crisis.

With the pandemic accelerating digital and hybrid working, the ability to work from anywhere and at any time may now be viewed as a ‘deal breaker’ for an employee to consider a role. However, employers wishing to offer this flexibility as a means to attract and retain employees must manage various considerations including differing immigration laws across borders.

In this session our immigration experts from the UK, Germany, and the UAE will come together to look at the concept of ‘workation’, where they have seen it used successfully and the potential pitfalls for employers looking to adopt this approach. The panellists will also share the differences between their respective jurisdictions about which global companies should be aware.
