Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has advised crew transfer vessel owner and operator Farra Marine on Ireland's first next generation wind farm service craft, the Farra Orla.

This is the first of the next generation crew transfer vessel (CTV) to operate from Ireland and with acceptance testing complete, the Farra Orla officially launched this week.

Commenting on the launch, head of Projects Ireland Garrett Monaghan said: "Farra Marine is a real example of the emergence of an indigenous supply chain in the Irish offshore wind sector. We are delighted to have advised Farra Marine on the financing, construction and acceptance of its maiden CTV, the Farra Orla. Congratulations and safe sailing to the Orla and its crew on its entry into the UK and European offshore wind markets.”

Company Owner and CEO Martin Rice said: “The successful acceptance testing of Farra Orla is the outcome of a focused 12 month programme with Penguin Shipyard, our investors and advisors. We really appreciated the pragmatic and commercial advice and attitude from the Pinsent Masons team.”

The catamaran is 27 metres long, has a top speed of 29 knots and is the first of a new generation of offshore windfarm service vessels. The company is expecting delivery of its second vessel, the Farra Ciara in early 2022.

The Pinsent Masons team comprised Garrett Monaghan, Gavin Farquhar and John Scanlon. Across our global energy practice, we are active in all points of the offshore wind consenting, development and supply chain cycles.

The Irish Ambassador to Singapore Pat Bourne and his wife Sonali Rajasingham attended the official naming ceremony in Singapore where the ship was built by Penguin Shipyard.
