29 Nov 2021 | 10:45 am | 1 min. read

Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has recruited partner András Kupecz to its European life sciences team, further bolstering its Netherlands-based technology, science and industry capabilities.

András, who is the firm’s fourth partner in the Netherlands, is a patent litigation specialist and advises clients across the life sciences sector, regularly acting on multi-jurisdictional patent matters.

With the situation around the Unified Patent Court (UPC) rapidly developing, András’ appointment will be key in ensuring that the firm is well placed to advise its international clients on the impact of this and to support them in their first cases.

Joining life sciences partner Machteld Hiemstra (appointed in June) and newly appointed senior associate Stephanie de Beer (US patent attorney and medicinal chemistry Ph.D.),the team’s combined expertise will enable the firm to support clients in patent litigation cases before the Dutch courts, the EPO and the UPC.

Commenting on the appointment, head of IP & life sciences, Clare Tunstall said:

“As a forum of choice in European patent actions and the quality of judgments being such that they influence decisions in other Member States, The Netherlands is a key jurisdiction for our clients. Patent litigation is a business enabler and András has a fantastic reputation for working with his clients and showing them just how important it is.”

With an MSc in molecular biology, András joins a full-service team where many hold relevant scientific qualifications and degrees, including in genetics, medicinal chemistry, human biology, and biochemistry- testament to the in-depth sector focus of the firm.

Amsterdam office head at Pinsent Masons, Wouter Seinen, said: "Continuing to build out our capabilities across the life sciences sector is important to us in Amsterdam as demand for domestic and international capabilities increases across both The Netherlands and continental Europe. It is great to welcome András to the firm and his work alongside Machteld’s will be vital in supporting the development of our global technology, science and industry sector.”

András’ appointment follows that of Life Sciences partners Dr Gareth Morgan and Gina Bicknell.
