Pinsent Masons launch Singapore courts handbook

24 May 2016 | 01:35 pm |

International law firm Pinsent Masons has produced the first specialised guide on the new Singapore International Commercial Court. The SICC Handbook- A Guide to the Rules & Procedures of the Singapore International Commercial Court”, is jointly authored by Mohan Pillay and Toh Chen Han, partners at Pinsent Masons MPillay in Singapore, and published by Sweet & Maxwell.

The establishment of the SICC means disputes can be dealt with by a panel of specialist commercial judges from Singapore and international judges with both civil law and common law backgrounds. Its launch in 2015 generated considerable interest, and a desire to understand its unique rules and procedures.

Singapore is increasingly recognised as the leading dispute resolution hub in Asia and is becoming the preferred base for international law firms and businesses in Southeast and South Asia. The SICC was created to grow the legal services sector in Singapore by expanding the scope for the internationalisation and export of the business of law.

Mohan Pillay says:

"The SICC Handbook is intended to be a practical and accessible response to the significant interest in the SICC, and its distinctive processes. Our book is aimed principally at the international legal community, and focuses on areas of practical interest, such as commencing SICC proceedings, joinder of third parties, confidentiality, document disclosure & evidence, the appeal process, costs & fees and international enforcement of SICC judgements."

In his Foreword to The SICC Handbook, the Chief Justice of Singapore commends the book as an "excellent work" and one that will "...prove invaluable to all those involved in SICC proceedings... "

Copies can be ordered from Sweet & Maxwell here, and various chapters will be serialised on Out-Law from June.
