Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has been appointed the legal partner of the Women in Nuclear UK (WiN UK) network as it becomes a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee.

Formed in 2014 and operating as part of the Nuclear Institute since 2016, WiN UK has become a key driving force behind improving diversity and inclusion across the nuclear industry and crucially in the promotion and delivery of the nuclear sector deal gender roadmap.

Pinsent Masons has worked closely with the network for several years, and has recently advised on WiN UK's transition as it re-launched as a new independent not-for-profit legal entity.

Melanie Grimmitt, Global Energy Sector Head at Pinsent Masons, said: "As a woman who has worked in the energy and construction sectors for over 20 years I've seen a lot of change with more diverse workforces, but more needs to be done. Networks like WiN UK are essential in making sure the nuclear sector doesn't fall behind and I'm proud that we are helping them make a difference. Whether it's at a board level or part of an apprenticeship intake, businesses that champion diversity and inclusion perform better, make better decisions and challenge the ‘business as usual’ model – which is vital as the UK looks to transition to a new normal to help fight climate change."

Michael Freeman, Senior Associate at Pinsent Masons who has led on the firm's partnership with WiN UK, said: “Pinsent Masons is proud to support WiN UK as its Legal Partner. We are delighted to have provided the legal services for the successful transition of WiN UK to a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. As a firm we are committed to championing the changes needed to create inclusive environments where diversity is embraced. We look forward to continuing to work closely with WiN UK in pursuit of gender balance in the UK’s nuclear industry.”

Lynsey Valentine, President of WiN UK, said: “WiN UK is now in a strong position as a new legal entity, after benefitting from the advice provided by Pinsent Masons. The legal team was ideally placed to advise us on various aspects of our transition because they are familiar with and wholly support our mission to improve gender balance in the nuclear industry. As a team, we’re incredibly grateful for their support.”
