Pinsent Masons advises Clarios on the acquisition of three Ecobat plants in Germany and Austria

05 May 2026 | 08:14 am |

Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has advised Clarios, a global leader in energy storage solutions, on a strategic agreement with Ecobat to acquire three industrial assets.

Clarios acquired the battery recycling activities of Ecobat, a global leader in battery recycling, at its Freiberg and Braubach sites in Germany and Arnoldstein in Austria.

This strategic deal enhances Clarios’ ability to recover and reuse battery materials, reinforcing its commitment to circularity and sustainable manufacturing across the EMEA region. The acquired facilities add proven technologies and deep technical expertise in lead and polypropylene processing and recovery to Clarios’ recycling network. This integration substantially increases the company’s in-house recycling capacity and supports its long-term sustainability goals, while helping meet rising regulatory and customer expectations for responsible sourcing and material reuse.

The transaction was completed on 1 May 2026.

The Pinsent Masons Corporate team advising Clarios was led by Partner Ronald Meißner, LL.M. with support from Partner Dr. Sönke Gödeke, Managing Senior Associate Florian Elsinghorst, LL.M., Senior Associate Tobias van Beuningen and Associate Mara Dobre.

The team also brought together experts from Pinsent Masons Tax, Intellectual Property, TMT, Property and Employment teams across its Germany, UK and French capabilities.

Clarios is a global leader in advanced low-voltage battery technologies for mobility. Its batteries and intelligent solutions power virtually every type of vehicle.

Ecobat is the world's largest battery recycler with locations in Europe and the USA. The company provides innovative solutions for battery recycling, resource recovery, and energy storage.
