Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has advised on the commercial close of four dialysis centres – a pathfinder public private partnership (PPP) implemented in Uzbekistan.
Pinsent Masons were the international advisors who worked alongside Uzbek law firm Kosta Legal to advise the the IFC (a member of the World Bank Group), and working closely with the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Health, on designing and tendering the public-private partnership. Nephroplus, one of Asia's largest dialysis companies, has been chosen as the private sector partner.
This first of its kind PPP will help upgrade health services and increase access to critical dialysis care to patients across the country.
The Pinsent Masons team was led by partner Sonal Shah. Sonal Shah said, "This is a great example showing how PPP's can effectively leverage the private sector's expertise and resources to meet infrastructure needs. They're an effective way of stimulating economies and as a pathfinder project, this is a success for Uzbekistan’s foreign investment ambitions. Coupled with recent changes in PPP legislation, this may well serve as a platform for future projects."
