The NEC Programme - More than a paper exercise

As part of the Law Review of Construction for 2026, this session will provide practical insights into the programming obligations under the NEC form of contract, common pitfalls, and best practices for managing time related risks on NEC projects.

Many NEC projects still treat the programme as a contractual deliverable rather than a live risk management tool. The consequence is familiar: programmes that are technically compliant at the outset, but quickly fall out of step with reality — weakening early warnings, undermining compensation event assessments, and leaving parties exposed when time and money are later contested.

This webinar will explore where NEC programming commonly goes wrong in practice, and how employers and contractors can use the programme properly to manage time risk, protect entitlement, and avoid disputes.

During this webinar, we will cover:

  • What NEC really requires from a programme beyond formal compliance
  • How early warnings, compensation events and programme updates fail in practice
  • Common programming mistakes that weaken entitlement and dispute positions
  • Practical strategies to align planners, project teams and contract administration
  • Lessons learned from live projects and recent disputes.

Who should attend

This session is suitable for employers, contractors, consultants, and anyone involved in project management or contract administration under NEC.

Subject to the approval of The Law Society of Hong Kong, attendance at this event may be counted towards the annual CPD requirement.
