Helen's experience

  • Represented a London Russell Group University in the defence of an Employment Tribunal claim involving whistleblowing, disability discrimination and breach of contract allegations.

  • Advised public body on parliamentary privilege and the powers of parliamentary committees in relation to requests for the disclosure of documentary evidence.

  • Conducting an investigation for an institution in the Higher Education sector concerning allegations of institutional racism and racial micro-aggressions, making findings of fact and suggesting recommendations in relation to changing the University’s policies and procedures.

  • Acting as the Independent Legal Adviser to a Disciplinary Panel for a Russell Group University. Included advising on the process of the hearing, ensuring fairness in the proceedings and considering and reviewing large amounts of information to come to advise on evidence-based judgements which take into account the University’s Statutes.

  • Advised a quasi-public sector body on the termination of employment of an Executive Team member. Provided strategic recommendations to the Board and addressed differing opinions from a diverse group of stakeholders.

  • Conducting an investigation for an institution in the HE sector concerning allegations of sex discrimination and harassment brought by multiple students and staff members and producing a detailed report with findings and recommendations.

  • Advised a leading London-based University on the successful defence of a high profile claim of whistleblowing and disability discrimination at a 7 week Employment Tribunal hearing.

  • Advising on the HR and employment law aspects of a major rolling re-procurement of services being undertaken by a central government department. Involves advice on the TUPE implications and amendments required to the Model Services Agreement

  • Supporting a global consumer healthcare brand on the HR and employment law aspects of the sale of its shared services centre and the outsourcing of its shared services function across Europe.

  • Advised Universities UK on the merger of three Sector Bodies, including advice on the application of TUPE and information and consultation requirements.
