Pinsent Masons advises Revera Energy on 400MW / 800MWh Hunterston BESS Project

Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has advised Revera Energy (Revera), a global independent energy platform backed by global investment firm Carlyle, on all construction and optimisation aspects of the 400MW / 800MWh Hunterston BESS Project.

The Hunterston project is located in North Ayrshire, Scotland, close to one of the UK’s most persistent power grid bottlenecks. Revera achieved financial close on the project in September 2026, and simultaneously issued Notice to Proceed, with construction of the project to commence immediately.

Pinsent Masons has advised Revera on the drafting and negotiation of all construction, maintenance and optimisation agreements for the Project, including:

  • Battery Supply & Commissioning Contract and Long-Term Service Agreement.
  • Balance of Plant Contract and Operation & Maintenance Agreement.
  • Optimisation Agreements with long-term floor and tolling structures.

The Pinsent Masons team for the project was led by Cameron Reid and Alexander Grant, with the optimisation workstream led by Jeremy Chang and Ronan Lambe.
