Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has hired pensions partner Andy Wright into its Leeds office, taking the size of its pension team to 64.
Andy specialises in advising pension scheme trustees and employers on all aspects of pensions law. His experience includes advising on complex funding and de-risking solutions, pension aspects of high-profile restructurings and insolvencies, liability transfers, technical aspects of pensions litigation, equalisation, pension increase and cross-border issues across the financial services, technology, infrastructure and energy sectors.
Andy joins from Eversheds Sutherland where he was a Legal Director.
Head of Pinsent Masons’ Pensions & Long-Term Savings, Stephen Scholefield, said: “Andy is well known in the pension market, both in Leeds and across the UK. His technical expertise and commerciality will reinforce our position as the leading pensions team in the UK. We are delighted to have him as part of our growing team.”
Andy has advised on many market leading matters, including the first publicised case of the Pensions Regulator exercising its statutory scheme funding powers, three cases decided by the Court of Appeal, the largest buy-in transaction at its time and the highest value potential claim on the Pension Protection Fund.
Andy’s appointment follows recent lateral partner hires in the financial services sector with Dr Jan Saalfrank LLM in Luxembourg, Tom McHugh in Leeds and José Millán in Madrid in the last year. #
Commenting on his appointment, Andy added: “I am proud to join Pinsent Masons’ highly regarded pensions team, advising clients on a full spectrum of pensions matters. I look forward to supporting the continued growth of the pensions team and contributing to the wider success of such an innovative and unique purpose-led firm.”
