James is Pinsent Masons' Head of Asia Pacific. He is a Projects specialist with decades of experience advising on the construction of major infrastructure and energy projects in Australia and throughout Asia.

James's experience

  • Advised a D&C JV on its bid for the Suburban Rail Loop Project Package C. Package C delivers a substantial portion of the tunnelling and early station‐enabling works between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley, forming a critical backbone of the SRL East alignment located in Melbourne, Victoria.

  • Advised CPP on its bid for the substation works on the Hunter Transmission Project, a NSW Government–led priority transmission infrastructure project in support of the new 500 kV transmission corridor linking the Upper and Lower Hunter and enabling the project’s overall power transfer and system stability objectives.

  • Advised the successful D&C joint venture in its bid for the delivery of a 7km dual-track rail line and associated infrastructure, including two stations and a tunnel, from Caloundra to Birtinya in Queensland, advising on and negotiating all matters relating to the JV’s interest, including upstream and downstream project documents.

  • Advising a bidding JV on its tender to the Australia–United Kingdom–United States (AUKUS) partnership for delivery of Prime Package – Area 3, Australia’s sovereign, conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarine capability. Area 3 focuses on acquiring, operating, sustaining and ultimately building nuclear-powered submarines for the Royal Australian Navy representing the largest and most complex defence project in Australia’s history

  • Advised Terra Verde JV on its successful tender for the design and construction of the Victorian Suburban Rail Loop Package D, comprising the northern section of the twin tunnel alignment between Glen Waverley and Box Hill in Melbourne, Victoria.

  • Advising a D&C bidding JV in its tender for The New England Renewable Energy Zone, a major NSW transmission line, with the zone expected to attract up to $24 bn (AUD) in private investment.

  • Advising ACGJV, a D&C joint venture on the successful tenderer on the HumeLink East Project; a new 500kV transmission line which will connect Wagga Wagga, Bannaby and Maragle in NSW.
