Businesses in the Netherlands have been given updated guidance on how the new EU-wide AI Act will impact them.

The updated version of the AI Act guide, which is also available in English (21-page / 287KB PDF), has been published as the act continues to be phased in across the continent.

The guide has been designed to provide practical support and advice for organisations to understand if they are in scope of the AI Act – and what obligations that will place upon them.

It covers four steps – from whether something is classed as AI under the new legislation, to the obligations companies and organisations face to ensure they implement AI systems safely.

Nienke Kingma, a technology law expert at Pinsent Masons in Amsterdam, said: “The AI Act is now being introduced in phases, and this guide will help organisations prepare. It’s not a legal puzzle, but a practical roadmap for navigating compliance obligations."

The majority of the EU-wide restrictions will come into effect by mid-2026.
