Defended a technology company facing claims for defamation, malicious falsehood, conspiracy to injure and breach of confidence brought by two corporate claimants.
Advised LSE on a claim for discrimination and personal injury against the school after Dr Piepenbrock, a lecturer at LSE, left the school on ill health grounds and allegations of sexual harassment were made against him by a post graduate student. The claim was rejected by the High Court in 2018. Dr Piepenbrock took issue with coverage of the High Court case in the Daily Mail and alleged that LSE had conspired to provide false and misleading statements in the article (quoted anonymously). Dr Piepenbrock issued a claim for defamation and related loss and injury. We acted for LSE on all aspects of this case.
Advised a gold mining company on obtaining Norwich Pharmacal Orders in order to identify an individual who was posting defamatory statements about the company on an influential bulletin board. We successfully identified the wrongdoer and secured the removal of the defamatory content.
Actedfor a major airline in relation to libellous statements made to the national press in respect of the airline’s safety standards and practices.
Advising on libel claims against a publication.
Advised a finance company on how to deal with a “smear campaign” against it mounted through the use of Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook.
This was a substantial libel action where we Acted on behalf of Jill Finney, the former Deputy Chief Executive of the CQC, in respect of statements made by her former employees that were widely reported. The action settled at mediation on favourable terms to our client. We Acted on the matter by way of a full CFA, securing ATE insurance.
Acted for administrators of Lehman Brothers International (Europe) in a repo termination dispute with DZ Bank and related negligence claims against the tri-party collateral manager, Bank of New York Mellon. The claim concerned previously untested points of law under the GMRA Master Agreement - the trades were worth €650m, concerned the valuation of over 1000 securities and 8 experts were instructed by the parties for trial.
