General Counsel Wellbeing Network partners with Pinsent Masons to deliver series of workshops for GCs

The GC Wellbeing Network, a global organisation to champion the wellbeing of general counsel, has partnered with multinational law firm, Pinsent Masons, to deliver a series of workshops to equip GCs with tools and skills to improve their wellbeing.

The health and wellbeing of GCs continues to be shaped by a complex mix of professional pressures and evolving workplace dynamics including changing regulatory and legal landscapes, AI and technology disruption, geopolitical uncertainty and resource constraints. This can often impact the wellbeing of GCs across several dimensions including stress, decision fatigue, sleep disruption and negatively affecting work life balance.

Dr Steven MacGregor, founder of the GC Wellbeing Network said, “having worked with senior leadership teams across a wide range of professional services organisations, it became clear that GCs face a particularly unique set of pressures. The GC Wellbeing Network looks to equip GCs with insights, tools and practical experience to embed wellbeing as a core component of leadership and performance. Partnering with Pinsent Masons to help deliver on this mission was a natural fit to help us make the most impact and reach the legal community across the UK and beyond.”

A study by LawCare found that GCs are at a high risk of burnout and are subjected to intense workloads. Despite this, many remain hesitant to seek support - held back by stigma and concerns about career progression. The GC Wellbeing Network aims to shift this narrative by championing a culture where wellbeing is not only accepted but prioritised. By reframing health and wellbeing as essential drivers of sustainable performance, empathetic leadership, and resilient organisational culture, the Network is helping to redefine what success looks like in the in-house legal profession.

This first of its kind partnership will see Pinsent Masons collaborate with the GC Wellbeing Network to deliver a suite of workshops guided by the Networks three key principles: impact, joy and safety. The sessions will seek to transform GC’s working careers, relationships and how they manage their mental load. Themes include ‘A Day in the Life of a GC’, ‘Driving an Organisational Culture of Wellbeing’ and ‘Hacking Habits’.

Senior Partner at Pinsent Masons, Andrew Masraf, said, “More often than not, GCs carry the weight of the responsibility they have in silence, navigating high stakes decisions, ethical dilemmas and relentless pressure, often to tight and ever-reducing budgets. The GC Wellbeing Network exists to break that silence. As a firm that works with some of the world’s leading GCs, and prides itself on building strong relationships with our GC community, this partnership gives us a role in helping address this.”

In 2018, Pinsent Masons was one of the founding members of the Mindful Business Charter, an alliance to change avoidable working practices that can cause mental health and wellbeing issues for employees. The charter now boasts signatories including Lloyds Banking Group, NatWest, Ashurst, Baker McKenzie, Clifford Chance, Eversheds Sutherland, Hogan Lovells, Norton Rose Fullbright and Simmons & Simmons.

The GC Wellbeing Network’s partnership with Pinsent Masons kicks off with a workshop exploring ‘A Day in the Life of a GC’ on the evening of Monday 9th June at Pinsent Masons’ office in London.
