Pinsent Masons advises TotalEnergies on disposal to Serica

01 Apr 2026 | 10:45 am |

Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has advised supermajor TotalEnergies E&P UK Limited (TotalEnergies) on the sale of its 40 per cent operated interests in the Greater Laggan Area gas fields in the West of Shetland, and the onshore Shetland Gas Plant, to AIM-listed oil and gas independent Serica Energy Plc (Serica).

The multidisciplinary Pinsent Masons’ team that helped deliver the transaction was led by Heather Hutcheon and Bruce McLeod in our energy transactions team, supported by the following teams: Giles Warrington and Paul Williams in Competition, Jamie Robson in Tax, Gillian Harrington and Gemma Taylor in Employment and Amie Bain and Cameron McCulloch in Pensions.

Heather commented, “Natural gas from the Greater Laggan Area is delivered into the UK national grid, enhancing energy security and reducing dependence on imported LNG. We’re delighted to have supported TotalEnergies during their divestment, and we wish Serica well as they take on the operatorship of these assets.”

This transaction is the latest in a series of significant transactions that Pinsent Masons has helped deliver for TotalEnergies during the last decade, including a strategic asset swap and carry arrangements with Galp in relation to the Mopane and Venus fields in Namibia, which were signed in December 2025.
