International law firm Pinsent Masons has appointed artist Susan Stockwell as its new Artist in Residence.

Susan will be working on site in the firms London headquarters, creating interventions throughout the building and working on a collaborative piece with staff during 2019/20. This will include a series of workshops and displays in the main foyer and client areas.

David Isaac, chair of the Pinsent Masons Art Committee commented, “We are delighted to be working with Susan Stockwell as our new artist in residence. Susan will be our fifth artist in residence and will carry on the now strong tradition of engaging with Pinsent Masons' partners and staff to make new work in our London HQ. Susan brings exciting new perspectives to the residency in her approach to sustainability and collaboration.  We very much look forward to working with her and exhibiting her work in our office".

Artist in residence, Susan Stockwell added, "I am excited about being artist in residence at Pinsent Masons. I see this as an opportunity to collaborate, make new work and exhibit it in a context that is new to me and will present fresh ideas and challenges. I plan to run creative workshops for staff where we will sew, draw, write and make together with the aim of collaborating on a quilt that discusses ecology, sustainability and art."

The residency is organised with the assistance of independent art consultant Maggie O'Regan of InSitu and will last for twelve months. Commenting on the appointment, Maggie said, "I am delighted with the appointment of Susan Stockwell who is an exciting artist known for work that addresses political, social, ecological and feminist issues while incorporating a range of recycled materials that include maps, dresses, money, computer components and everyday products. The residency engages staff and clients alike and can also play a key role in the well-being and creativity of the firm.”

Susan will be the fifth artist in residence at Pinsent Masons in what has been a varied and engaging programme to date. She is an award winning artist who has completed several successful public commissions including works for The Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Army Museum and the London Transport Museum. She has work in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum and Yale Centre for British Art among others and has exhibited internationally including at Tate Modern and Manchester City Art Gallery.

The residency at Pinsent Masons provides a platform for artists to continue to produce new work. Previous artists have included the sculptor Nick Hornby, printmaker Paul Catherall, photographer Rachel Louise Brown and filmmaker Rory Waudby-Tolley.
