Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has appointed Peter McCusker to join its corporate financial services team as a partner in London.

Peter joins from Royal London where he was Group Deputy General Counsel, playing a key role supporting Royal London’s life, pensions, and asset management businesses for more than a decade.

Peter has a longstanding relationship with Pinsent Masons, having worked with the firm on a long-term transformation project to modernise Royal London’s life and pensions business through a programme of complex fund restructuring and systems migration.

Head of Financial Services at Pinsent Masons, Alexis Roberts, said: “With a longstanding career in financial services and extensive experience in-house at Royal London, Peter will be an asset to our team as we continue to strengthen our capabilities advising largescale financial institutions on strategically significant corporate matters. His experience in navigating complex insurance transactions, reorganisations and transfers will play a vital role in advancing our ability to advise on critical cross-border matters. We look forward to welcoming Peter to the team.”

Peter’s appointment follows recent lateral partner hires in the financial services sector with Hannah Griffiths joining the firm in Sydney in December 2023, Conor Durkin joining the Dublin office in November 2023, and Harjeet Lall joining the London office in September 2023.

Commenting on his appointment, Peter added: “I am thrilled to join the exceptional team at Pinsent Masons and am eager to contribute my experience at such an exciting time. Having worked closely with individuals across the firm for many years, I have first-hand experience of the firm’s commitment to innovation and excellence and look forward to collaborating with colleagues to deliver on the strategic priorities of clients across the financial services sector.”
