Pinsent Masons renews 'sole advisor' relationship with E.ON UK

After a competitive process, international law firm Pinsent Masons will continue to act as the sole advisor to leading energy provider E.ON UK, a relationship which will run until 2023.

This is the second consecutive time Pinsent Masons has been appointed as E.ON UK's sole legal advisor under a five year agreement – which in 2013 was one of the first agreements of its kind. This agreement means the firm will continue to provide a full range of specialist legal services to E.ON UK until 2023.

The partnership gives E.ON UK's in-house legal team the ability to benefit from high quality advice and support from Pinsent Masons on pre-agreed fixed prices that delivers certainty, confidence and flexibility as E.ON fulfils its customer focused strategy to make energy simpler, smarter and more sustainable. Pinsent Masons will play a pivotal role in supporting the in-house team, as well as providing advisory services across the entire business.

Fixed priced arrangements are now being implemented for a wide range of routine project types in place of a single capped fee for all business-as-usual work. The fixed price arrangements drive common objectives, simplify day to day interaction, foster joint innovation and fairly allocate risk in ways that provide long term support to businesses.

Around 4.3 million customers in the UK choose to get their energy from E.ON, making it one of the country’s leading energy providers. E.ON employs more than 9,000 people across Britain, working with customers, companies and across communities to make energy simpler, smarter and more sustainable. The company is committed to delivering new solutions, products and services built around customers’ differing needs and the transformation to a smarter energy system.

Jonathan Fortnam, Partner from Pinsent Masons who leads the relationship with E.ON UK, said, "By renewing our partnership, we can continue to provide valuable and strategic advice and support to E.ON UK. They play a vital role in the UK energy market and over the past five years we have developed an in-depth understanding of how best we can meet their needs. E.ON takes a long-term view of UK's energy sector, and we see this as the continuation of a strong relationship across the next five years”

Kirin Kalsi, Head of Legal E.ON UK, said, “Our relationship with Pinsent Masons has been an exciting and innovative arrangement and the success of this is evidenced by the latest extension to the agreement for another five years. The legal function at E.ON has a prominent role to play in ensuring our customers are treated fairly and that we act in an effective and efficient way to manage costs for our customers. Pinsent Masons was able to secure the contract to continue providing legal services to us in the UK with a wide range of expertise, at a competitive price, with valuable added value elements included and providing technical solutions to further enhance the way we provide legal services to our colleagues, which ultimately benefits our customers.”
