Pinsent Masons advises on one of Europe's largest AI infrastructure projects

Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has advised Pure Data Centres Group (Pure DC) on the launch of what will become one of Europe's largest AI infrastructure projects.

The €7.5 billion AI campus project in Seinäjoki, Finland, represents the largest ever UK investment into Finland and is set to play a significant role in supporting Europe's growing demand for AI and cloud infrastructure.

The Pinsent Masons team was led by Partner Anne-Marie Friel, supported by Managing Senior Associate Harriet Hayes and Senior Associate Emilia Turnock, advising Pure DC on the construction and energy workstreams for the project. Pinsent Masons worked alongside Finnish law firm Borenius on this project.

Commenting on the project, Partner Anne-Marie Friel said: “This is one of Europe's most significant AI infrastructure projects and a strong example of the investment being made in the digital infrastructure that will support future economic growth and innovation. The Seinäjoki campus reflects both the scale of AI demand and the increasingly international nature of the data centre sector."

Phase 1 of the development will see investment of more than €1.5 billion in a 110MW AI campus, with the wider site capable of scaling to more than 550MW of capacity. The first phase is already fully leased, with key infrastructure, planning permissions and power requirements secured. The full development is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs during construction and will support the growth of AI innovation, digital infrastructure, and regional economic development in Finland.
