With significant legislative changes on the horizon, this practical workshop helps employers assess their exposure to union recognition campaigns, evaluate voluntary and statutory recognition options, and respond effectively to new workplace access rights under the Government’s draft Code of Practice.
The statutory recognition process has been simplified, removing the need for unions to show, at the application stage, that a majority in the bargaining unit are likely to support recognition, and removing the 40% turnout threshold. A simple majority vote is now required for recognition. In addition, from October 2026 Unions will also gain new workplace access rights, both physical and digital.
Content of this interactive workshop includes:
- Assessing the organisation’s vulnerability to recognition campaigns by a union/ rival unions
- Considering the options: voluntary or [imposed] statutory recognition of the union
- Consequences of recognition and how collective bargaining works
- The draft Code of Practice and Government Consultation on the right to access to workplaces
- Criteria to consider when responding to requests e.g safety, security, business disruption, duplication with existing access, etc
