The race for talent: the cost of living crisis and the impact on employers

How the global cost of living crisis is impacting employers around the world and what businesses can do to respond to these challenges.

As we emerge from the global pandemic into the new working world, employers are facing acute challenges to recruit and retain their staff. The challenges include the remarkable acceleration in flexible and hybrid working, inflationary pressure and wage demands. The companies are racing to adapt to meet these needs. Soaring energy fees, climbing food prices and increasing fuel costs have been key contributors to on-going global cost of living crisis.

As part of our Campaign “The race for talent”, we will take a look at how employers in different jurisdictions was responding to the cost of living challenge. To begin the session, we are delighted to welcome Sonia Sodha, chief leader writer and a columnist at the Observer, and deputy opinion editor at the Guardian, for a fireside chat to delve deeper into the cost of living crisis, including what the next stages of the crisis may be and how different governments are responding.

To follow this, our Employment experts from Germany, Spain and Luxembourg will take part in a moderated panel session covering the legal issues they have been helping clients with relating to the crisis and how employers can best prepare for the future challenges that might arise. 

We will discuss how employers have and can respond to the consequences of:

  • Rising energy prices
  • Global inflationary pressures 
  • Urgent tax reforms
