Marcus Bokkerink was Chair of the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) from 2022 to 2025. During his tenure, he re-oriented the authority’s strategy towards helping consumers get better choices and a fair deal; enabling businesses to innovate and thrive by tackling anti-competitive practices; and freeing the economy to grow productively by replacing government regulation with competitive market solutions.
He initiated a broad programme of reforms to make CMA’s approach in mergers, consumer protection and digital markets more effective, faster; stepped up the CMA's engagement with consumers and set up direct engagement business and investors; and oversaw the CMA's adoption of significant new powers under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act. Prior to the CMA, he was a Senior Partner and Managing Director at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he led the firm's UK and European Consumer Practice, Strategy Practice and a range of global client teams. He also established and developed BCG’s China business. He is currently a Non-Executive Director at the international law firm Pinsent Masons, a director and investor in several start-ups, serves on the Board of Governors at the Manchester Grammar School, and chairs the Pembroke College Cambridge Development Board.

Competition Appeal Tribunal
Peter Freeman is a lawyer who has held senior posts in UK competition enforcement. From 2006 to 2011, he was Chairman of the Competition Commission, having previously been a Deputy Chairman. He became an Ordinary Member of the Competition Appeal Tribunal in 2011 and from 2013 one of the Chairman. He is currently a Senior Policy Advisor at the Tribunal.
Prior to this he was a partner in the law firm Simmons & Simmons, becoming Managing Partner of the firm’s Commercial and Trade Law Department and Head of the EC and Competition Law Practice Group. He was later a senior consultant to the law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. He was called to the Bar (Middle Temple) in 1972 and admitted as a solicitor in 1977.
He has written and spoken widely on competition and regulatory law matters.
