In summer 2019 the government consulted on its proposals for reform of the building safety regulatory system, which built on the recommendations made by Dame Judith Hackitt in her Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety. The proposals will result in sweeping changes to building safety and the imposition of new responsibilities on additional dutyholders. In particular, it will result in a new training and competence regime across the industry, which will have implications for directors and senior managers and will require whistleblowing protection for employees reporting fire and structural safety issues to the new regulator.

We explore the key components and scope of the new regulatory system, industry concerns and how your organisation can prepare, the interaction with existing health and safety duties including CDM 2015 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
