A relief fund web site has been established at September11.org as an outlet for people to help victims of yesterday’s tragedy in the US. The site is accepting donations on-line. A list of businesses which had offices in the World Trade Center has been posted by a news site.

The September11.org site was set up by Keith West, president of eGO.com. A board of directors composed of Virginia business leaders will oversee the fund. Its goal is to see that 100% of collected funds go directly to victim relief efforts. The American Red Cross is also inviting donations to help the disaster relief effort. Donations can be made on-line at http://store.yahoo.com/redcross-wtc/

A list of businesses which had offices in the World Trade Center is available at www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/21615.html. Among these, the offices of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter employed 3,500 staff in the buildings. A message from its chairman is at www.morganstanley.com.

A statement from President Bush, issued Tuesday night, is available on the White House website.

Among the early reports of casualties was news that Daniel Lewin, aged 31, co-founder and chief technical officer of internet content distribution company Akamai, was among the 92 people on board American Airlines flight 11 bound from Boston to LA. It was one of the two planes which struck and destroyed the World Trade Center’s twin towers.

Akamai CEO George Conrades said: “Danny was a wonderful human being”. He continued: "Our thoughts and prayers are with Danny’s family, friends and colleagues during this time of national tragedy and personal loss.” Edmund Glazer, 41, Chief financial officer of network systems company MRV Communications, was also on board the same plane.
