BT is threatening to terminate the broadband service accounts of subscribers who use peer-to-peer (P2P) applications, claiming that they abuse copyright, according to a report today by TheRegister.co.uk.

It appears that BT, which restricts bandwidth to P2P sites from its ADSL service, sent a letter to at least one subscriber, accusing him of distributing copyrighted material via his account. BT claimed that the user’s activities breached its Acceptable Use Policy for the ADSL service.

The subscriber is reported to have denied the infringement accusations.
