AOL-Time Warner is being sued for $47 million in damages by software developer Playmedia. The company claims its proprietary MP3 technology was misused in the web browser AOL 6.0, according to reports in Motley Fool and Newsbytes.

In its lawsuit filed in an LA court, Playmedia claims that the software had originally been licensed to developer Nullsoft for use in its popular Winamp MP3 player. Nullsoft was bought by AOL two years ago.

AOL-Time Warner has the right to continue using the software in Winamp, but, according to the lawsuit, not in other applications, such as AOL 6.0.
