French internet giant Wanadoo is the major participant in the alliance, with Wanadoo France, Wanadoo Spain, Wanadoo Netherlands and the UK's Freeserve (also part of the Wanadoo group) providing four of the six national markets. The other participants are rivals WEB.DE from Germany and Libero from Italy.
In a statement the ISPs said that the purpose behind the alliance was to better answer the need of the fast growing on-line advertising market. This is widely anticipated to recover over the next few years.
According to the group:
"The network answers customer demand for a powerful pan-European resource and reflects the increase in online advertising spend across Europe. Its structure gives a single point of contact for the customer and allows fast and flexible country specific consulting, with support and implementation across the whole handling process."
The network will run across all six countries, offering advertisers access to 30 million unique users, two billion pages viewed per month and very high reach rate in each market, according to the alliance.
