The FBI has identified 7,257 UK paedophiles in an operation investigating two international internet child pornography rings, according to a report by the Sunday Telegraph. It appears that the suspects used their credit cards to access paedophilic images, which in some cases involved children barely a few months old.

According to the report, the names and addresses of the suspects were identified when they provided their e-mail and credit card details to register on two pay-per-view web sites that had been seized in October by FBI agents. The Sunday Telegraph reports that the details of the alleged paedophiles have already been given to the British police and the information will be used to organise what is believed to be the UK’s largest paedophile investigation.

A spokeswoman for the UK police is reported to have said that the results of the investigation indicate the extent of the problem.

The FBI have already raided the homes of hundreds of subscribers to the sites but prosecution in the US appears to be more difficult due to wider definitions on the possession of indecent internet material.
