I have been working exclusively on OUT-LAW since it began in 2000. I am a technology lawyer who learned the basics of journalism from writing for this website – but I will never be a writer of Matthew's calibre.
Matthew came to us from the Sunday Herald, and has done work for the Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Tribune and the BBC, amongst others. You may know his voice from our podcast, OUT-LAW Radio; he is also the primary author of OUT-LAW News. The success of OUT-LAW.COM owes much to Matthew's talents.
A further change is coming. Pinsent Masons is making a significant investment in OUT-LAW's expansion, which will be the centrepiece of an online strategy that we've developed and refined over the course of several months.
As part of that strategy, we began advertising today for a journalist and a technology lawyer to join the OUT-LAW team. These are very unusual roles, but they will be hugely rewarding for the right candidates. We are also working closely with one of the UK's top digital agencies on a complete redesign of our site.
I will not be here to see through the implementation of our strategy, though I’ll be keeping in touch with the team and helping out where I can. It is with a heavy heart that I must say goodbye to my friends at Pinsent Masons and to the users of this site. Working on OUT-LAW.COM has been a rewarding and tremendously enjoyable experience for me. But it's time for me to move on. I leave tomorrow to face fresh challenges, working as part of the legal team at Google. I am proud to be leaving OUT-LAW.COM in Matthew's very capable hands.
By Struan Robertson, editor of OUT-LAW.COM for one more day.
John Salmon, Partner and co-founder of OUT-LAW.COM, writes:
On behalf of the firm and all of the regular readers of OUT-LAW, I would like to thank Struan for his enormous contribution in the last 10 years. His constant push to quality and innovation has undoubtedly made OUT-LAW what it is today. We wish him all the best in his new role and I am sure that he will be a real asset to Google.
We are delighted that Matthew has agreed to become the new Editor and look forward to taking OUT-LAW forward with him.
