The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has sued US-based on-line retailer eDiscountTech.com for allegedly selling illegal copies of DVDs on its web site and through auction service eBay, according to media reports. The web site owner has admitted purchasing the discs from a seller in Malaysia, but denied knowing that they were not authentic.

It appears that the lawsuit followed an MPAA investigation, which spotted DVDs that had not yet been released being offered for sale on eDiscountTech.com and eBay.

It is also reported that the MPAA has already seized about 2,000 allegedly pirated DVDs from the retailer, but the two parties are currently trying to settle the case.

According to the MPAA, the lawsuit is the first to target a US-based e-tailer for importing and selling pirated digital works.
