Scottish engineering company Norson Services has in effect been fined £12,000 by the Business Software Alliance (BSA) for using illegal software. The BSA became aware of the issue when someone reported Norton to its piracy hotline.
That person received a reward of £1,200.

According to the BSA, Norson Services was found to be using unlicensed copies of Adobe, Autodesk and Microsoft software.

Bill Bell, managing director of Norson Services, said:

"Rapid growth and a change in corporate structure meant that our licensing arrangements weren't given the priority they deserved. Having worked with BSA to rectify the situation, we can now say that we're fully licenced and have set up good software asset management practices. We shall remain vigilant and will be conducting regular checks on our software to avoid a replay of this situation."
