James's experience

  • Advised a retirement living developer on a five site deal and its construction arrangements with Anchor Housing Limited. This was a strategic deal for the client to continue to develop retirement villages but with an affordable housing provider. The transaction was forward funded by Anchor Housing.

  • Acting for UCL in a joint venture with Moorfields Eye Hospital (MEH) for the land purchase, joint development and sharing of a new eye hospital at St Pancras. This will be a £500 million plus project. It will involve the disposal of the existing hospital site on City Road, Moorgate.

  • Advising Retirement Villages Group on the £20 million land acquisition purchase of the former ABC Cinema site in Tunbridge Wells, South East England. This will see the proposed development of approximately 200 later living apartments. The Gross Development Value will be £200 million.

  • Advising Belgium based care home organisation, Aedifica, on its acquisition of a SPV and a purchase of grant of care home lease in Hailsham, East Sussex. The development is intended to accommodate up to 60 seniors.

  • Advised Aedifica NV/SA, the Belgium listed REIT specialising in European healthcare real estate, on its acquisition of a brand-new purpose-built luxury care home in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, comprising 69 en-suite bedrooms for seniors requiring continuous care. The home was developed by the Hamberley Group, and proceeded by the acquisition of the company owning the home, Hamberley Development (Ampthill) Limited. Hamberley Care Homes is the operator of the site, having entered into a new irrevocable 25-year triple net lease on completion

  • Advising McCarthy & Stone on a historic landmark partnership, combining the country's two leading retirement providers in order to accelerate the delivery of retirement accommodation that is 'affordable for all'. The first two of these developments was set to get underway in Hook and Hinckley late 2020 with the next two developments located in Bingley and Standish due to commence in early 2021. The partnership will initially deliver 482 units across these five large-scale sites, which are currently owned by our client and have planning consent.

  • Advised Investcorp on the disposal of a portfolio of 7 industrial estates with the 2 largest in Leeds, 3 others in the North of England and 2 in Scotland. This involved the disposal of M7 Real Estate and Blackstone which was a particularly complicated disposal. The Jersey registered entities owned the assets and therefore involved a joint Real Estate and Corporate collaboration.
