Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has advised SUSI Partners on its purchase of a 50MW battery storage project from German renewables developer ABO Wind in Kells, Northern Ireland.
The project is the largest stand-alone battery storage project in ABO Wind’s history and will participate in the Irish capacity market. Pinsent Masons led SUSI Partners through the entire transaction including legal due diligence and leading them through the transaction.
Commissioning is scheduled for 2022 and the high-capacity battery will also provide services tendered by the transmission system operators EirGrid and SONI to stabilise the Irish electricity grid and to balance the fluctuating feed-in from wind farms.
The Pinsent Masons team was led by Richard Murphy, and included Matthew McMurray, Michael Hamill, Cora McLaughlin, David Ross, Hannah Megarry, Ciaran McNamara and Louise Davison.
Lead Partner Richard Murphy said: “Energy storage has a crucial role to play, in both managing energy supply and in facilitating the deployment of renewable energy technologies. With a wide range of technologies now available, energy storage is becoming a much more attractive option for investment and its potential benefits has caught the attention of many investors and stakeholders alike on a global scale.”
