International law firm Pinsent Masons has appointed Johannes Jurgen 'Jurg' Van Dyk as a projects partner in the firm's Johannesburg office.

Jurg is highly regarded within the South African market and has a strong profile advising on a broad range of energy and infrastructure matters, as well as extensive experience advising on transactions in other African countries.

Jurg joins from Cliffe Dekke Hoymeyer, where he was a Director in the Projects and Infrastructure practice and the Head of the Construction and Engineering sector, specialising in construction and engineering related matters. Within this role, Jurg advised power utilities, owners, developers, contractors and professionals on all aspects of construction and engineering law. Jurg has particular experience across renewables and in the last five years has been involved in the majority of renewable energy mandates in the South African market.

Rob Morson, partner in Pinsent Masons' Johannesburg office said, "Jurg's presence will further enhance our transactional capability and provide invaluable support to investors, funders and developers alike. Jurg brings crucial cross-sector experience to our Africa practice, having advised on infrastructure and energy projects not only in South Africa, but across the continent - working seamlessly across both contentious and non-contentious spheres."

Pinsent Masons has been handling transaction and matters for international clients with interests throughout South Africa for over 25 years. Recent experience includes advising an oil and gas company on the construction, supply and finance agreements for a modular refinery complex at the Port of Monrovia in the Republic of Liberia; advising a chemical producer on the development of an Anhydrous Hydrogen Plant and Aluminium Fluoride plant; and advising a client on the construction of Arena Mall in Kampala, Uganda. Pinsent Masons has also been supporting multiple contractors on various conventional power projects (Medupi and Kusile) and a number of other renewable power projects in South Africa and elsewhere in Africa.
