Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has recruited VAT specialist, Bryn Reynolds as partner into its London office.

A chartered accountant and tax adviser, Bryn’s practice has an emphasis on advising businesses on all aspects of VAT matters including disputes with HMRC as well as alternative dispute resolution. He has a broad sector-focused practice with a particular emphasis on the financial services and technology sectors.

Bryn joins from Simmons & Simmons where he has been a tax principal since 2018.

Head of tax disputes and investigations at Pinsent Masons, Steven Porter, said: “Bryn’s contentious and non-contentious VAT experience will add significant value to our tax and financial services expertise.

His experience advising on complex dispute matters and engaging with a broad range of cross-sector clients to support them in grappling with myriad complex VAT matters will be an asset to our team and client base.”

Prior to joining Simmons & Simmons, Bryn was a VAT specialist at big four accountancy firms KPMG and EY qualifying as a chartered accountant and chartered tax advisor in 2014.

Bryn has advised on a number of high profile matters including negotiating a complex VAT recovery dispute with HMRC for a global fund manager involving a partial exemption special method (PESM). Furthermore, he’s advised a multinational bank on the application of its financial services exemption for their intra-group services.

Commenting on his move Bryn said: “I’m looking forward to joining Pinsent Masons’ established tax team as it strengthens its contentious and non-contentious capabilities. The multinational footprint and the cross-border client base will enable me to further develop my practice and support a broader range of global businesses with complex VAT needs.
“As a chartered tax advisor, I am excited to be joining a purpose-led professional services firm with law at the core in order to broaden the scope of services Pinsent Masons can offer its clients.”
