Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has ranked in the top 75 UK businesses in the Social Mobility Index, securing 30th place.
The Index assesses UK organisations for their efforts to improve social mobility in the workplace. They are evaluated on criteria including engagement with young people, apprenticeships, recruitment processes and the career paths of individuals from lower income backgrounds within the organisation.
Pinsent Masons has been recognised for its outreach work with schools with above average level of Free School Meals as well its focus on social mobility cold spots citing that this enables the firm to ‘reach young people beyond your doorstep in areas where the need for support is highest.’ The firm’s approach to social mobility leadership at Board level was highlighted as demonstrating the importance of the issue across the business.
Head of Early Talent at Pinsent Masons, Deborah McCormack, said:
“The pandemic has underscored societal inequalities that are entrenched and which impact so many people. It’s heartening to have our efforts in social mobility recognised. It’s vital that our firm and our peers recognise the value in broadening access to the legal profession, creating diversity of thought and giving so many more people the opportunity to thrive and carve out a successful career. There is of course much work to be done and we look forward to engaging further with our school partners and the communities in which we operate to redouble our efforts in social mobility.”
In 2020 Pinsent Masons launched its Social Mobility Champions employee network across its multinational offices. The network Champions promote and support the range of initiatives run by the firm that widen access to the legal sector for the next generation.
